• Kathu is located in the center of Phuket, making it a convenient location for exploring the rest of the island.
• Ali’s BBQ is a bit of a Phuket eating institution – serving up big portions of fresh bbq meats cooked over coals as you sit in their bamboo gazebos.
• The area is home to several popular tourist attractions, including the Kathu Waterfall, and the Flying Hanuman zipline park. Tiger Kingdom is around too, but we personally don’t want to endorse any activity that involves animals out of their natural environment.
• The Phuket Country Club, an 18-hole golf course, is located in Kathu and is a great place to spend a day on the links.
• Central Festival Phuket mall is located in Kathu and offers a wide range of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. It has a cinema (but make sure you take a jacket – that AC is icy cold!). We also recommend checking out the food court in the downstairs area of the “older” part of the shopping center, whereas if you’re looking for all the standard International chains then head over to the newer part.
• The Kathu Night Market, held every Wednesday and Friday evening, is a great place to try local street food and shop for souvenirs (holding and icy cold Kathu kombucha WOW bottle to cool yourself in the balmy evening, obviously!)
• The area is also known for its street art, with several impressive murals and graffiti pieces located throughout Kathu.
• For those interested in history and culture, the Kathu Shrine is a popular destination. The shrine is dedicated to the Chinese god of mercy and features ornate decorations and colourful statues. Recommend using a scooter rather than a car to get here.
• The Red Mountain and Loch Palm golf courses are located in Kathu and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.
• Kathu is also home to several spas and wellness centers, offering a range of treatments and services to help visitors relax and rejuvenate.
• Finally, Kathu is a great place to base yourself if you’re looking to explore the island’s interior and experience a more authentic side of Phuket. There are several small villages and towns in the area that offer a glimpse into local life and traditions.
